Artopic Gallery, which wants to promote young artists, is about to welcome the young talent Manat for an exhibition focused on the portrait. And not just any! Manat stands out by its favorite subject: primates! Bonobos, chimpanzees, all the monkeys go by!
In 2008, the artist traveled to Mexico and South America to study an "ancient occult belief". During his trip he carries only a handle of toothbrush and a sketchbook. Thus, during his trip he met (for the first time), these expressive primates, full of life and relief. This meeting is a real revelation. From the portraits of old people it converges to the portraits of primates. The monkeys are gradually transformed into men, becoming cooks, rockers, bikers, captains or taking selfies with friends, all monkeys. Some continuity continue, where wrinkles and poetry mix.
Passionate about chiaroscuro, his works in shades of black and white give a deeper depth to the monkeys' eyes and the colorful details that he adds.
